France is an illustrator with a degree in Visual Communication, majoring in Graphic Design. Originally from New Zealand, she found herself in Melbourne where she landed her dream job as inhouse graphic artist for a prominent Australian fashion designer. In her time there she covered everything from repeat patterns to marketing, enjoying all facets of the design process.
Four and a half years later she began work on her own little freelance and graphic design studio, and LUNE came to fruition. Danish for 'Whimsy' (a nod to her distant Danish heritage), LUNE is dedicated to all things cute and curious. It aims to provide unique stock illustrations and designs for personal and commercial needs, all available through her online store, FRANCEillustration on Etsy.
France creates from her studio, kept company by her three pet ratties; Marshmallow, Kaiju, and Sweet Lou (pictured above). Sweet Lou is the inspiration behind LUNE's resident mascot and muse, Louis the Fox.
France uses a combination of hand drawn illustrations and computer crafted graphics to create her artwork. She draws inspiration from Scandinavian design, Japanese pop culture, her library of fashion illustration + design books, cute kitschy vintage ceramics, and whatever catches her eye while she's out and about on the streets of Melbourne.
The majority of her design is created in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, this provides the flexibility and ease of editing often required for commercial artwork. But computers can only convey so much, and often she finds herself reverting back to a pencil and sketchbook, drafting new ideas and creating graphics with a unique hand-drawn feel. A lot of her work is a combination of both traditional and computer, striving to create artwork that is not only beautiful, but convenient for ease-of-use in a computer driven world.
France is incredibly grateful to her friends, family, and all the supporters of LUNE. She is always humbled when people enjoy her artwork enough to want to incorporate into their own lives ♥
